What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants in Beverly Hills are designed to offer a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Those who have lost teeth can regain the ability to eat virtually anything and smile with confidence, knowing their teeth appear natural and their facial contours are preserved. These implants consist of tiny titanium posts placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Additionally, dental implants help preserve facial structure by preventing bone deterioration from missing teeth.

Surgical Advances
in Dental Implants

Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Ruxandra’s Periodontology team is able to place single-stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction, further minimizing the number of surgical procedures. Dental implant placement is a team effort between a periodontist and a restorative dentist.

What to Expect on the Day of Dental Implants

On the day of your dental implant treatment in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, Dr. Ruxandra and our team will lead a well-coordinated and efficient procedure.

Anethesia will be used to make the process painless for you, and then we will proceed with the first part of your procedure. Dental implants are metal anchors that act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jaw bone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrudes through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, dental implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jaw bone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your restorative dentist designs the final bridgework or denture, which will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.

The second phase begins after the dental implant has bonded to the jaw bone. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. Dr. Ruxandra can then start making your new teeth. An impression must be taken. Then, posts or attachments can be connected to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

Dental Implants Recovery

Recovery from dental implant surgery involves several stages, each crucial for ensuring the success and longevity of the implant. Immediately after the procedure, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and minor bleeding. These symptoms are typical and can be managed with prescribed pain medication and anti-inflammatory drugs. Applying ice packs to the affected area during the first 48 hours can help reduce swelling.

In the initial days following the surgery, adhering to a soft diet is important, avoiding hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that could disturb the implant site. Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital during the recovery period.
